Welcome to MAGNOLIA

MAGNOLIA is a project funded by the Mississippi Legislature that provides online research databases for all Mississippians through publicly funded schools, libraries, community colleges, universities, and state agencies.

MAGNOLIA provides students and researchers across the state access to reliable, academic peer-reviewed journals and curated age-appropriate content not available through public searches.

In order to comply with state law, starting July 1, 2023, users will be asked to verify their age before entering their access code. Users under 18 will only be able to see age-appropriate content.

To access the databases, visit your school, public, community college, or university library, or contact the Mississippi Library Commission to request your institution’s code at 877-KWIK-REF or mlcref@mlc.lib.ms.us. If you have concerns about material found in MAGNOLIA, please visit this link: http://mlc.lib.ms.us/review

History of the project

MAGNOLIA was founded in 1997 when Mississippi legislators appropriated $568,000 to purchase online databases for publicly funded libraries in Mississippi. Senator Grey Ferris of Vicksburg was instrumental in bringing this project to the legislature. In 2022, the Legislature increased MAGNOLIA funding from $1,000,000 to $1,350,000.
